Trend Forecast: Everything is coming up Kicks.

That's it. I can't hold it in any longer. Ladies kick back and relax as a new sports luxe trend takes the stage. We've had designer denim, designer handbags, designer heels now make way for the next designer item that you will be seeing in every magazine and on every high street fashion store, the return or more so the elevation of the Designer Sneaker. They've been spotted on a number of early adopting industry trend setters such as Taylor Tomasi Hill of Modus Operandi and formerlly Marie Claire and also on Victoria's Secret Angel model, Miranda Kerr.

But surely no die hard fashionista would be switching up her red-soles for -gasp-flat shoes? Not so fast, whilst the trend appears to have originated in the traditional flat variety, there is also the option provided by Isabel Marant of a more vertiginous hidden heel, giving the illusion of a longer leaner leg because the casual observer's eye is tricked into thinking you are wearing a regular basketball kick. The first time I saw the idea of sport luxe was on Mary-Kate Olsen when she was seen sporting (couldn't resist) a pair of sleek black Nike kicks in December 2008, which ultimately brought on a whole new revolution in terms of not looking like a homeless person when going to the gym, ironically despite MK's love of Hobo-Chic.

This trend however focuses on a more is more mentality with a reliance on clashing prints and look-at-me vitality to it. Leopard print looks to be a big hit print which has seen success over the last several seasons and that shows no sign of slowing down whilst a return to the bold bright colours made popular in the 80's is also on the cards, especially at camp Isabel Marant.

So if you're one of those people that have been holding onto a pair of bright limited edition Nike's since '88 then dusty them off and chuck them on for some serious feet party time as we get set to welcome in the hoe down that this trend is set to be. Ellery's 2011 Resort collection entitled, "The Second Marriage"which was influenced by the artist David Hockney's painting of the same name (seen below) was photographed in Paris by Darren McDonald starring international model Kim Noorda.

The collection was photographed abroad after being showcased in a presentation last May during Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. Oyster Magazine's Ingrid Kesa describes the collection fittingly as,

"a strong offering with lashings of femininity coming through in the form of floor-length silhouettes, drapery and a smattering of diamantes. A tailored tuxedo adds a bit of a masculine vibe and makes for an appealing alternative to a dress".

This dreamy photoshoot was created at Salvation Mountain in the desert of Niland, Southern California. Leonard Knight built the mountain out of adobe, hay and paint as a way of spreading the message of "God is love". The colossal structure is also featured along with Leonard in the cult movie, Into the Wild (2007). It makes me really wish that I had known about it when I was recently in Los Angeles because that would most definitely have been well worth the trip to go see.

The innocent vintage camisoles and Meadham Kirchhoff slip included in the styling comes curtesy of infamous teen blogger Tavi Gevinson and her recent venture Rookie Mag, a new online magazine for teenage girls that focuses on all the magical things you can't find in your typical contemporaty Teen Vogue or Seventeen.

The shoot also showcases the husky work of photographer, Petra Collins who is also apart of the all female online artist collective, The Ardorous as previously blogged about here.

Here is the first photo of model-turned-actress Gemma Ward looking even more other-worldly than ever, on set of Baz Luhrmann's remake of The Great Gatsby. Gemma is playing the role of Catherine whom only appears twice in the paper and ink original story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Interestinly she is described as,

"a slender, worldly girl of about thirty, with a solid, sticky bob of red hair, and a complexion powdered milky white. Her eye-brows had been plucked and then drawn on again at a more rakish angle, but the efforts of nature toward the restoration of the old alignment gave a blurred air to her face. When she moved about there was an incessant clicking as innumerable pottery bracelets jingled up and down upon her arms."

What makes this description interesting is how much Gemma fits the role minus the red hair which is instead the signature colour of Isla Fischer who plays Catherine's sister, the doomed Myrtle Wilson who is the lover of Tom Buchanan, one of the books principal characters.

Several family members have asked me for a list of what I would like for Christmas, which would seem slightly weird to some people who still believe in the sanctity of this painful holiday but if you are someone who knows me then you will understand that I am an embarrassingly hard person to choose a present for should the occasion arise, where a gift is customary out of good manners or tradition.

Despite how rude it may seem to some my making a list, I have done the deed out of the mutual understanding that if my friends and family could return the favour then I will find even more joy in knowing how much they will invariably treasure a gift that they picked themselves. Furthermore for all the non-believers in the list; the element of surprise is still present in the gift (pun unintended) as you the giver were granted the option of picking from a list, so the receiver still doesn't know exactly what they'll get!

All of this thinking about the dilemmas of my embarrassingly fastidiousness nature left me contemplating how many other fashionably inclined and consequently hard-to-buy for people there are out there. I can't be the only one? Come on, seriously. Oh no maybe it really is just me?

This prompted me to think about thoughtful or more so unusual gifts that you wouldn't find at your local shopping centre/mall/large-centre-for-capitalist-endevours for people who are a little more difficult to find that special gift for. So running up until the big day, each week I will be sourcing a little something special for that fashionable girl/guy that you would like to find something special for.

First up is the 2010 made documentary on the relationship between designer Yves Saint Laurent and his business partner and lover Pierre Berge. The documentary includes commentary by Pierre and is cut between interviews and other footage through out the pairs career, starting with their meeting at the funeral of Christian Dior in 1957.

The story also interweaves between the removal and sale of some of the pairs possessions after Yves passed away in 2008 that was auctioned off in collosal style at the Grand Palais in Paris by Christies which grossed at over 370 milllion euros according to Another Magazine.

It features interviews with friend, Betty Catroux (seen above and who is also featured in this month's Oyster Magazine) and muse Loulou de la falaise, both seen in flanking Yves in that infamous image outside his newly opened store in London 1969.

The Babushka Ballerina Store Opening

One of my beautiful friends Sierra is opening her first bridal and clothing store in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley on Ann st called The Babushaka Ballerina. I've had the privilege of getting a few sneaky looks inside the colossal shrine to all things girly before its opening this Thursday and trust me it is looking fairly insane in the membrane.

Imagine what it would have been like if the childlike empress from The Neverending Story had her own boutique somewhere on the Rue Cambon in Paris. Imagine that and you're close. But to get a feel for the real thing you can pop in and say hello during her opening night between 6-8pm, but be sure to visit her blog for more details on being placed on the guestlist.

Only problem with this though is that the launch party for the magazine that I have been working on takes place at the same time on the same evening!! But my solution to this one is to live up the flowing bubbly at both and then party on into the night with all my favourite girls!! More details about the launch in a couple of hours so stay tuned!

The Ardorous

I came across one of the most inspiring online artist collectives The Ardorous, and it's all produced and run by ladies which is probably why a lot of the work features young magical-yet-malicious-nymph looking girls.

One of my favourite editorials is this one called Krishna by Masha Mel a photographer who lives in London and hails from Moscow, she is also the editor of Vrag Magazine.

The photos seem as if all of your dreams as a 7-year-old (girl) came alive, were made from gem stones and then were published with the slightly perverted perspective of a princess whose sister got to be queen. That's the way I see it at least. Click through to see more.

What a hectic hectic time of year for assignments assignments and uh more assignments!! But in some more exciting news, I was the fortunate winner of the Studded Hearts exciting competition to win the gorgeous Miss Unkon, Ever Shooting Star jacket seen after the jump!

It was probably the best thing to happen to me in the last few weeks and I got the email from the lady behind the blog, Yenny, after a long and disappointing day which started off with me finding out that the photo-shoot I'd done a couple of days before (for the magazine I'm working on at the moment, Frock Paper Scissors) wouldn't be using the cover shots we did and then I found out that I was in fact meant to be at work straight after that for 9 hours (first world problems, I know but still devastating to me)!!

So to come home and receive the sweet gem of an email from Yenny was like the pot of gold at the end of a shit filled rainbow. Thank you so much to both Studded Hearts and Miss Unkon for the wonderful jacket which I look forward to rocking in some ice cold non-environmentally friendly air conditioning!!! Stylists Own Billie Gray

The latest greatest label to come out of Byron Bay is Billie Ray's Stylists Own, which came about after reading the reference of 'stylists own' in editorials, through her work in the industry and as a junior stylist for Stylestalker . The brand's focus comes from Billie's love of "customisation, magazine editorials, vintage, the 90's, live bands, model off duty and street style," she says in the brands manifesto, "For people that just get...it".

You can't help but want to get to know Billie and her style even beyond the, I've been searching for this neck cuff for ages drawcard, by the way she describes the brand as not being about pretentiousness, money or what's considered precious, which once again makes me wish I knew her better.

That's why I caught up with Billie Gray last week via email to ask her a few questions, and to get to know this stylish babe and her label a little more, click through to hear more inspiring words from Billie...

What were you doing in the fashion industry before stylists own? What has been your path leading up to now?

Previous to starting Stylists Own I was working as a junior designer for the label Stylestalker, as well as doing some assistant styling on shoots.

I have always been obsessed with fashion, design, illustration, especially DIY and making my own things out of frustration of not being able to find what I wanted. I have had no official training at design school, I was accepted to RMIT after high school but decided on Sydney and the promised dreams of an internship at Oyster, I think I lasted two weeks before my "Stylist" bubble was popped and I cracked it from boredom. That was 4 years ago, now, ha I feel so old (I'm only 22).

Who would you most like to see wearing stylists own?

I would love to see Elin Kling (amazing Swedish power fashion/mogul/blogger) Kate Bosworth or Rosie Huntington Whitely. I have so many Streetstyle pictures of them in an inspiration folder on my desktop…

But its always great seeing anyone wearing something you've designed out in an everyday situation especially if you don't know them, it means that they really do like what I’m making (instead of having your PR agent get it out there for you or having to "gift" things which happens a lot in fashion).

What would be your ultimate magazine + store to be featured /stocked in?

Store: I would love in the future to be in Shopbop, Opening Ceremony, Oaknyc (I’m a huge fan of online shopping) but at the same time, I’d still pinch myself if I saw something in the DJ's [David Jones] or Incu window.

Magazine: eek that’s hard I have an absolute love affair with magazines, maybe i-D as I've always found it the most inspiring (a lot of editorials contain "stylists own" pieces, the idea from which the name was coined) anything in Russh would be great too, just because its such an amazing magazine aesthetically, and I've been reading it since issue one!

What made you choose Krystal Glynn as your model (besides her rising star in New York and back home in Australia)?

I wanted someone that was going to capture attention for the debut collection.

I had the opportunity to meet her at RAFW after the Friend of Mine show which she opened, and there was something I liked about her- a fresh but memorable face. Australia has a limited amount of "IT" models available at any one time, so it was good to get her before she was whisked away.

She had booked Prada Resort a week before shooting with us then got sick and had to cancel the poor darling, and that was three months after being scouted! It’s amazing how well she is doing!

How did you come across Zanita Whitington and why did you choose her to shoot your first campaign?

I have been following Zanita's work via her blog and really love the pictures she takes, so beautiful! I am really happy with how the campaign turned out and definitely would love to work with her again.

Where was the campaign shot?

In and around Camperdown, Sydney. The interior shots were taken at a friend's amazing apartment.

Where is Stylists own made?

The collections and proto samples are made in Sydney, then produced by a small family run factory in Indonesia. The jewellery is all hand crafted in our studio in Sydney by my sister who is supporting me in the jewellery side.

Our nana was a jeweler in Melbourne and my sister and I would spend school holidays in her studio with her making our own custom pieces, jewellery is something I’m also very passionate about, I definitely want to produce more in Australia though and expand on the accessory / jewellery line.

Is that your tattoo on the about page of stylists own and does it say Heart Breaker? If yes, that is very cool!

Ha, yes this is my upper left thigh. A friend of mine did it when I was 19-years-old, the heartbreakers club was in-house joke between a group of my friends. I also thought that doing a Jennifer Love Hewitt/ Sigourney Weaver scam would be the perfect life especially meeting and marrying Jason Lee (from the movie heart breakers), It’s still remained one of my favourite tattoos (I have eight).

Your blog reflects so much about your style and aesthetic, how long have you been blogging for and what are some of the blogs that you follow?

I toyed with the idea of blogging back in 2008/9 but ended up deleting that first blog. I then created a Tumblr back in 2009 too, which I found very useful to dump all of my overflowing inspiration pictures into (heartxbreakers.tumblr.com); and did a bit of blogging for Stylestalker, but really got much more into it since starting Stylists Own, as I like sharing what’s inspiring me. There’s soo many great blogs out there and so much great inspiration. My go to favourites are;

Because we're going into summer could you recommend one item you will be wearing the most from stylists own as the weather warms and also, one item that is not stylists own that you will be wearing (besides sunscreen!)?

I already basically live in our bullet hole shorties and the grey hold me tight skirt and I’m feeling for a summer night time I’ll be wearing the ombre dyed sheer cape. I’m also lusting after a couple of the Friend of Mine pieces from the collection Smokey Rolls Co designed by Alex Spencer of 4thandbleeker especially the Devendra dress. Sheer black lace and raw edges. I’m all about it. Oh and I need a new pair of Karen Walker "Super duper strength" sunglasses, I swear by them, and my last pair recently came to an untimely death :(

Finally, we at Seventh Avenue Australia like to think that we 'get it' when it comes to finding that special vintage treasure and mixing it in with something from our kindergarten dress up box, so what would be your go to method for being 'creative with what you have'?

I love raiding my dads and brothers wardrobes for some basics, cutting off or rolling the sleeves of a well worn t shirt, I recently cut the legs off a pair of suit pants to give a raw frayed edge which is a great juxtaposition to the tailored style, and something a bit different to my Levi 501s which I usually live in over summer.

I love giving new life to clothes in my wardrobe that I can’t bare to let go of or finding a fantastic crazy vintage piece and wearing it with something basic so it really pops.

My usual go to outfit formula is pairing something old, with something new and adding a statement piece of jewellery and some killer shoes. Investing in great basics, and splurging only on things that you really love and know will last because of the quality not the "trend". I’m all about comfort, and mostly a self-confessed tomboy, but ohh how I adore shoes.

She experiments a great deal in layering different textures and unusual genres of fashion, all mixed up in a charismatic story about a beautiful or haunting woman. Stevie has also carried this aesthetic over in a refreshing way when she styled Jethro Cave in a Russh editorial in which mostly women's slips and petticoats were used.

Brisbane's very own Miranda Kerr was seen on seven blue chip catwalks this Paris Fashion Week for the S/S12 which is quite unusual for her as she hasn't really done that many ready-to-wear shows since 2006 when she was in high demand for New York Fashion Week. Besides Miranda's usual Victoria's Secret work she has also walked for a few Balencaiga shows more recently, the most notable during her pregnancy with her first born and now eight month old, Flynn. Here are some behind the scenes polaroids from a shoot that I styled this week. I haven't mentioned yet but this semester I've been studying Fashion and Style Journalism at QUT and by the end of the semester we will hopefully have published a mad awesome magazine that runs by the name of Frock Paper Scissors.

Some Brisbane lads and ladies may have heard of FROCK before as it is produced once a year by the fashion and journalism students at the Queensland University of Technology, plus now of course one lady from the University of Queensland (me!), and is distributed around boutiques, cafes, hair salons and anywhere that would like some for their store/cool business all around Brisbane!

Another super cool thing about FROCK this year is that it was decided that the mag would take a much more substantial mens section (or half) of the magazine and I was the lucky one selected for the role of Men's Fashion Editor.

This is the reason why I was styling a shoot this week during my uni break for one of the magazine's crazy talented photographers, Dusty Ansell and his rock 'n' roll inspired menswear shoot featuring Nate Webb, guitarist for Brisbane band Bang Bang Boss Kelly. The shoot took place at the Old Museum in some of the creepy beautiful rooms and corridors and featured clothing from some of Brisbane's most innovative and 'only a local would know' menswear stores, The Outpost, Blonde Venus, Dirtbox, Sunday Social and Always Habit. Lindsey Wixen talks to the Telegraph about what it's like as a young model and provided us with a fairly informed description on how to shoot a pistol. She also eludes in the video to the fact that if modelling ended tomorrow for her, then the salary she has made off of it would allow her to continue her education in whatever she wanted to do. Overall the 3 minute 51 second video shows a well spoken and a surprisingly down to earth 17-year-old, given that she has been scooped up and placed on the highest shelf with a blue chip pinned to her checked pinafore since her steady ascent from a Spring 2010 exclusive contract for Miu Miu and Prada.

Above however are images from the Versace ss12 show from Milan Fashion Week which is on at the moment, this trip marks the second for Wixson who also tripped up in Naomi Campbell's Fashion for Relief Benifit for Haiti last year. Both times Wixson handled the falls like a boss by jumping back up and giving a thumbs up for the photographers and front rowers behind her! She later tweeted, "Sprained ankle :(". Hope she recovers fast enough to strut down the final leg of fashion month which is PARIS!!

Sass and Bide Sets London Fashion Week Alight

Sass and Bide produced a gloriously popping and locking collection showcased during London Fashion Week which finishes on Wednesday. The Sydney power-duo whilst remaining true to their eclectic and often textured aesthetic brought a fresh plate to the table and included simple prints cut in interesting fabrics, that in the case of a shirt and vest made in a steel fabric polarized the idea of both matt and shimmer in the same weave, identified by Style.com as a burnished silver sequin.

This same sentimentality continued throughout the collection in the juxtoposition of various contrasting adornments, demonstrated with such spirit in the styling. The standout number of the collection was the visual feast that came in the form of a blue striped suit that created the illusion of a floating liquid candy wrapper, that can be seen in more detail after the jump, along with some of LFW's day 1 video highlights.

Dazed and Confused Over Vogue Australia's October Cover

This month's Vogue Australia cover which features model, mother and all around total babe, Arizona Muse. Arizona is a phenomenal force in the modelling world at the moment inciting gasps and sighs just from the mention of her very cool name and has walked for the likes of YSL, Chanel, Chloe, Stella McArtney, Marc Jacobs, Joseph Altuzarra, Celine and was on an exclusive for Prada in Milan SS11.

Besides Arizona's odd beauty she is also 24-years-old which is well past the age that a lot of models start to drop off the radar. Yet she is doing so well in part due to her fresh look that is being copied by some of the next crop of models coming through this season.

This cover is her third Vogue cover, previously she has shared a Vogue Italia with Freja Beha and more recently on last month's Vogue Korea. Another noteable cover was this year's March edition of Dazed and Confused magazine featuring four covers of the model and which was subsequently devoted to her.

Ring any bells? The fact that this month's Australian Vogue has three covers featuring Arizona is a credit to her but not exactly something that I'd have been to keen to essentially copy at Vogue.

Considering that they have essentially done the same thing as Dazed and Confused did, only 7 months later is a little disappointing, and does nothing to dispute the argument that Australia is six months behind the rest of the world and not six months in front, in terms of fashion and trends!

The only discernible difference between the covers besides the clothes of course and the title, is that Vogue appears to have used full body shots with the exception of the last cover above and Dazed featured tight close ups of the model.

Understandably one of the reasons for this decision may have been that the two magazines have different demographics and so the readers of Vogue Australia may never have even picked up a Dazed magazine. But hey you be the judge and let me know if it's expecting to much? See the Dazed covers after the jump.

Always a favourite editor here at SAA, Christine Centenera is the streetstyle blog infamous fashion editor of Harper's Bazaar Australia. Here she shows us all how it's worth investing in well-established design houses like Azzedine Alaia because not only are the experts on updateing an everyday silhouette with precision detailing but also because of Alaia's zero advertising policy and anti-establishment attitude (Alaia refuses to buy into the whole machine of fashion and has thus alienated US Vogue and is never featured on its pages) their designs are quite hard to come by and even less likely to be seen on the backs of every half-wit 'fashionista' who think that knock offs are where the design process begins. Keep an eye out also for Christine's design collaboration with Kanye West which was announced a couple of weeks ago because judging by these two and their penchant for matching Celine prints (which you can DIY here), we are certainly in for a treat!

Lanvin AW1112 Campaign Film Starring "some male models"

This season's video campaign for Lanvin is an absolute corker and showcases one of Paris' most luxurious fashion houses AW11/12 clothing, to a dance routine. It resembles what you would expect a young Isadora Duncan would look like if she walked into a nightclub and deciding to do a line dance in between the fist pumping of some sweaty guidos. Seriously. It's. Just.That. ~~Disturbing~~. Funny. It stars Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmerman, Milo Spijkers and Lowell Tautchin the latter two interestingly, are only mentioned as "some male models" by a number of other media outlets (Thanks to Homme Model for the names). The lack of interest in the male models is a disappointing trend to see in fashion, but otherwise a guest appearance by Alber Elbaz at the end of the clip is something that is sure to make you smile. A final recommendation for viewing the video after the jump is, to put the sound on mute, but you'll figure that out after replaying this for the next 10 minutes.

Just for the record, I hate reading about new jewellery collections in magazines and I read magazines cover to cover. I also don't like looking at fine jewellery editorials unless they are ridiculously creative however I could spend ALL DAY just staring at the designs by the genius that is MANIAMANIA, created by Melanie Kamsler and Tamila Purvis.

Been very busy lately especially after finding out that I was accepted to study at The University of New York in Stonybrook!!!! Yay I can't wait to hit up New York in the vintage fur that I got the day before I found out...sorry peta its vintage at least? Ok that doesn't make it any better your right. I will probably have poor helpless little dead rabbits and bears and foxes entering my dreams at night from now on. Dayuum that sucks.

BAMBI BAMBI BAMBI BAMBI NORTHWOOD-BLYTH. what a babe. Definitely been one of my favourite models for the last few months however I was getting worried that she was getting too much exposure because yes that can happen in modelling. Unfortunately I think this happened to a certain degree with Brisbane model Hannah Glasby.

So moral of the story is that it was good to see Bambi go abroad and do so well especially with capturing the attention of LOVE editor Katie Grand! I do believe that she is also now engaged to boyfriend Dan Single.

Better known as one half of the Ksubi design duo, Dan is also a popular DJ and goes by the name of Dangerous Dan and is part of the six piece DJ Bang Gang. You also may be interested to know that Bambi used to be called Stephanie but Bambi definitely suits her nicely as a model name!

In other news, the blog is getting a MAJOOOOR facelift at the moment to go with some new posts yadda yadda yadda. The internship at Style Magazines which I mentioned a little while ago is going well and they even asked me to stay on till the end of the year instead of just one month which is fantastic as I'm getting some articles in print as a result of lotsa hard work, YAY. So I have this vintage vest thing right and everyone calls it a cape but I swear it's a vest however the whole Matrix thing could be considered pretty cool right? Ok so even I can't convince myself of that one and I just typed the sentence! But that's ok I'm used to getting the weird sideways glances by now, especially when I pair this with my ridiculous Balenciaga look alike boots. By the way this outfit is actually from a few weeks ago when it was still cold however I feel like its starting to warm up significantly now and its only a few days into spring now in Australia, actually its six merde!! I need to get a move on with some things so I shall talk later yes?

I know it is just tragic how I broke these sunnies as they are my favourites and it happened on the first show I went to at Splendour in the Grass (Australia's Glastonbury for the international readers) which was Foals. Somehow, cause my friends and I got there early, we were quite close to the front and needless to say it got packed and we of course got stuck in the middle of the mosh which was an intense/hilarious experience and so that then made getting out next to impossible when it started to get too much. Eventually we made it out only to find that I had lost one of the lenses from my favourite sunglasses. So of course I then just had to wear them with one lens until I could buy a new pair that evening. It was a hot look. Very pirate Lady Gaga which I'm sure you can imagine. Hot.

Busy Busy Busy. Can not wait for summer except that I have no idea what I am going to be wearing besides my new clogs that I got on friday? I shall show them off when I find the right dress for them but until then you shall have to deal with my button downs and knee highs. On another note I just found out last week that I got an internship with Style magazines which is very exciting and until then I am going to be working at the boutique and hitting the books. So many pretty neutrals that I am loving so very much! If only it was colder here because then I could whip out my vintage wool Country Road coat that is so very appropriate to this colour palette. Or even my special buy that I sourced at some non-descript markets on my trip to Sydney; that I shall endeavour to tell you about when the weather permits an outfit that requires it. Actually I'm in Brisbane so until I move to Sydney I probably won't get much use out of it so I'll try and do an outfit where you can see it soon, and trust me YOU WILL DIE BECAUSE IT IS BANANAS. But do not worry my pretties cause this piece is a classic and will not go out of style anytime sooner or later...and yes that is a clue as to what it is!! Happy guessing.
